And The Beat Goes On

Still riding the wave of a no pain run (except for the shooting pain when the tendon snapped), I was hesitant to go out for a second run.  I headed out this moring to run the 2.2 miles to the trails near my place.  I feel comfortable now that the injury is gone.  Yes, there was still a lingering soreness the last couple days but it was different and likely due to the constant pain over the last 6 weeks.  I ran to the trail head, ventured in, and up, for a while, then turning around to head home for a 5 miler in 38 mins.

The plan now is to take my now skinny and weak legs out every day possible for a 5-6 miler for two weeks, then test everything with a 3 hour run along the coastal trails.  So happy to be running without pain!

Tim- As someone who has suffered for months with nagging injuries and missed several key races because of it, I can relate to your excitement to be back running. I’m also at the same stage of trying to bust out that all important basis of ultra training, “the three hour run!” Good luck and stay motivated. Remember- it’s all just part of the crazy sport that we are fortunately/UNfortunately addicted to.

  2. Hi Kamm,
Yeah, it’s a bitter-sweet sport sometimes. One day you’re riding high on the edge of seeming perfection and the next you’re hobbling through a 4 mile run. The good thing with going through those bad times is that you realize that in the end it’s just a sport and not as world shatteringly important as it seems to some people.
Good luck to you the rest of the year.
